Also saw this Geekhouse bike over at Urban Velo. It's got a through axle front and a nice curved seat tube. Also check out the clips and straps.
I know it's dorky, but I can't help but be excited to see All-City stuff at NAHBS.

Happy B-Day Season.
Last night our good friend and Bike Jerks official seamstress (she's a wiz with a wool jersey) Season celebrated her birthday with a little roller skating. The thing about rollerskating is that it is just so silly, you can't help but smile the whole time no matter what mood you're in.

We've finally made it!
Bike Snob NYC was making fun of one our old video's today, a sure sign that Bike Jerks is finally on the map.
Now the esteemed Snob didn't mention us by name (I'm crossing my fingers and scrunching my eyes tightly shut in hopes of that day coming) but he did post a link to the All City Championship trailer and this screen shot of Connor.
Here's the video in question. I kind of have a hard time watching it now because the riding seems so dated. I watched the Bootleg Sessions Vol2 the other day and felt exactly the same way. Riding from a year ago is almost painful to watch at this point, since things have progressed so far.
One of the fun things for me is that if you type "fixed gear tricks" into youtube this is usually the first video that pops up, which means that people watch it and post messages of how gay we are. Now I don't take internet punditry too seriously, however the one thing that does bother me is fourteen year old dipshits saying that the song in the video sucks.
If you can't get down with Kim Wylde and "Kids in America" then god (yours not mine) help you because you've lost your sense of fun.

Monster Track Weekend and DVD
*Text from Michael Green
This weekend, Monster Track X, the tenth annual edition of NYC's most intense underground alleycat street race, will be blazing through city streets making heros out of ordinary messengers, and a legend out of one. Monster Track, the most outlaw of outlaw alleycat bicycle races, has only one rule: No Brakes.
Captured by Play In Traffic Productions, Monster Track the DVD reveals this underground phenom from the inside.
The DVD features:
-- Track Kaiju,
a short film documenting the adventures of Sino and Hal, two messengers from Tokyo, who come to NYC to race Monster Track and are shownaround town by world famous messenger Mike Dee.
--Monster Track a Race Video,
a short video capturing the thrill of Monster Track from the only perspective that counts: the racers. Featuring the helmet camera footage of Lucas Brunelle following the finest city riders through the middle of live traffic.
--Monster Track Not a Race Video,
a series of interviews revealing the minds of the Veteran messengers, the rookies racers and everyone in between right before the big race and answering the number one question: why race Monster Track?

Peacock Groove Gets Ready for NAHBS part 3
This is Part 3 of my little mini photo essays on Peacock Groove getting ready for the upcoming North American Handbuilt Bicycle Show. You'll have to check out the other entries to scope out exactly what's going on with the Appetite for Destruction and Kill Bill bikes. In my opinion it's worth the effort. And I apologize for all the flash photography. I dislike flashes as much as you, but the lighting in Erik's studio is all florescent and fairly dim, and the flash was the best way to get the photo. This is all very casual, I've just happened to run into Erik a bunch lately because he's in the neighborhood and little Matt (Bike Jerks official little bro and wheel builder) is building all of his wheels. Not to mention I'm trying to figure out a way to get the coin to have him build me the 29'er of my dreams. Anyway, here are some more shots of his workspace as he readies himself for the NAHBS this weekend.
check out the other posts: Part 1, Part 2
Yipes Stripes: Octagonal tubing, each tube painted a different color. Matching octagonal stem.
Revenge: check out the previous posts for more on this Kill Bill themed monster.
Appetite for Destruction: This is the rear disc wheel for his hugely tubed track machine with the pinup girl on the downtube. This is the inside cover work from GNR's album, a painting called "Appetite for Destruction."
Make bikes, go broke, fuck everyone. Peacock Groove Forever!

Getting your money's worth
These are the pedals and toe clips I've been riding on my Gangsta since fall. I was testing the leather fronts to see what kind of improvement in the feel of the toe clips they provide (that review is a story for a different blog). I have been riding the MKS Stream pedal for a while now and really like them for freestyle use. The bearings feel great, they accept double straps, have a very nice profile to the teeth of the cages, and are completely double sided (identical).
I recently pulled them off to install plastic mountain doubles and Odyssey plastic pedals. I have had a set of the plastic doubles for a while now, but haven't ridden them much. So far I love the clips and they are way more comfortable than any metal clip I've used. Although the obvious downside is that unlike metal clips which usually bend before they break (as seen in the photo) plastic toe clips fail catastrophically. The plastic pedals are amazing for pedal grinds and I'm really enjoying this new setup. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wrexican
Minneapolis bike fixture Steve Post aka: the Wrexican, was the victim of a hit and run in NE Minneapolis on Saturday night.
Hurl put it best when he stated "What kind of fucktard can leave another human being lying helpless in the street, after running them over?"
that says it all.
Get well soon Wrex!

Peacock Groove Gets Ready for NAHBS part 2
So I stopped by my man Erik's shop yesterday and he had more bikes back from paint for NAHBS. Erik is known in some circles for his mountain bikes, but this year for NAHBS he's throwing down several track bikes. Here's a sneak preview of what he's got going.
I love Erik's work, his greatest strength is that unlike most small builders there is no standard Peacock Groove. He does everything from large tired snow bikes, to sick 29'ers to 26" duallys, road and track bikes. He does it all.
I'm telling you this, not to be preachy about buying local, or to give him a handjob. I am telling you this, because I am constantly impressed with what he can do. I think he is one of the most talented and weirdest people I know, and I think it's bullshit that few outside of Minneapolis know who he is or what he does.
He takes risks and consistently pulls it off.

Does this paint job seem familiar?
