A very special Tricks and Drinks

We're going to go ride some street. I'm making the call. Jeremiah's in town from NYC and we're going to show him the town.

Prepare to roll out by 10pm from the spot and be out until who knows when. I've got a plan. Trust me.

Also I just ran across this the other day. Remember 2007? It's hard to believe how much things have changed. For those who have never seen this, this is the first ever Bike Jerks video, and no I didn't pick the song. Kevvy was being all emo that day, but it's totally awesome in it's absurdity. While this is definitely embarrassing at points, at other points I get into it, it stands as a testament to how much things can change in two years.

shit. I guess if I'm going to post the above I might as well post them all so 1. I can clear our good name a little bit 2. to illustrate exactly the point about the progression of doing stupid tricks on your fixed gear

You know, watching those videos..I do feel a sense of nostalgia (you'll just have to indulge me on that one), but what hits home is that of all of the folks in the first video only two of us are still riding and that's kind of been the theme here in Minneapolis. Two years back Tricks and Drinks was a crowded social event, a bunch of kids showed up and we all drank beer and practiced our trackstands. Now none of those people show up...Andy, myself, and Conor are the only ones from the original St. Paul lot who still frequent. It's sad really and symptomatic of what seems to me (by my own point of view, which may be extremely skewed) to be a splintering of the unity of the Minneapolis Cycling Community (capital letters. it looks real official, huh). As people get into more and more activities: there used to be No Names and Saturday Night Rides, then there were Alleycats, SNR's, and Tricks and Drinks, then there were Alleycats, SNR's, TnD's, Cold Sprints, Polo etc. It's only natural for people to get more into whatever it is that their into and abandon other pursuits that were just dalliances.

But I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss seeing the same people at all the happenings. I guess that's the reason I'm so excited for the Minneapolis Bicycle Film Fest, All City Championship Weekend (yeah, it ain't just the most bad ass race all summer (it's the Burt Reynolds of that shit), it's also sprints, tricks, trackstand, polo, and party. You better show up. I'm looking at all of you out of towners. If you've ever thought about visiting us August 22nd is the time), and Babes in Bikeland (huge all female race (biggest in the country?)). I'm excited to see everyone together. I care for you all deeply, even if I don't always show it in a recognizable form.

So the party that is Film Fest Weekend is kicking off Tuesday with a very special Tricks and Drinks. If you want to ride street (which means the drinking will be intermittent) show up by 10pm when we leave the spot. For those of you who might just want to dick around and have a few beers I suggest you show early. If I don't see ya then, I'm sure I'll see you at ColdSprints on Friday.
