This afternoon I received an email from Chrome alerting me to the fact that they would be producing these jerseys which are only to be given away as prizes at events they sponsor throughout the upcoming year.
The Coveted Jersey
Here's Chrome's Press Release:
In an effort to properly award blue-collar racers across the country, Chrome proudly presents the Coveted Jersey. It’s a limited edition riding jersey that can only be obtained by winning select bike events.
“You won’t find the jerseys on our site or in any stores. We’re not selling them and won’t be giving these away. The only way to get one is by winning an alleycat, sprints race, polo match or some kind of similar event”, says Chrome Marketing Director, Matt Sharkey.
In order for an event to receive one of these jerseys as a prize, the race promoter has to submit an application giving all the details through the Chrome site at http://www.chromebagsstore.com/events/. Designed by Garret Chow of MASH/GLOBE and produced in Italy by Capo, only 200 jerseys have been made and once they’re gone, that’s it.
“There’s a lot of companies trying to tap into this market by spraying these events with gear & branded product, with no real thought or purpose behind it,” Sharkey says. “The idea of the Coveted Jersey is to support these grassroots events with a unique product that no one else can get. It can only be earned through competing.”
So why are you reading about this here?
Well, the folks at Chrome are some of the kindest and most generous in the industry. They're one of the principal companies who has supported the groundswell of urban cycling events of the past few years, and more importantly (to this post anyway) they are one of the original sponsors of the All City Championship. They've been supporting Bike Jerks since day one and have delivered the goods for every ACC, every Track or Treat, not to mention the BFF races. Bottom line is that they've been incredibly awesome to me (and all of the participants) and I thought you should know that they've come up with one of the best marketing concepts since forever.
They have graciously agreed to set aside some jerseys for this years edition of the race (that's how you fit in, you could win one of these beauties and forever receive acclaim and kudos when wearing it).
On the ACC tip, it's our fifth anniversary so you can bet your balls that it's going to be the biggest and best one yet. The date's not set, but it will be in August.
