Surly asked me which frame I wanted, and after thinking about it I came up with a 16" 1X1. My thinking is that everyone owns a track bike so the Steamer is no good, and the Cross Check would be a good choice but a dicey size selection.
I realized then that the 1X was the way to go since a 16" would fit a wide range of heights, and it would be a bike that most riders could get built up without too much hassle.
