Appleman NAHBS Prep
If you're not familiar, let me introduce you to Minneapolis' only custom carbon bicycle maker and carbon frame repairer, Appleman Bicycles.
Owner Matt Appleman made his NAHBS debut last year, and this year is upping the ante with a fully internal cable routed disc cross bike. Before we get to that (come back tomorrow) though, check out his personal track bike below.
I don't know about you, but the idea of a custom carbon fiber bike or the fact that one dude can make a carbon fiber bike from scratch, still trips me out.
More tomorrow.

Speedhound: NAHBS Prep
As promised, here are some photos from the preparations by one of Erik's workshop mates, Speedhound Cycles. Speedhound not only share space with PG but are fabbed by Erik as well.

Sunday
took Baroo down to the bottoms to do some riding and check out the spot where Pembo got hurt to see if we could figure out what the culprit was. I followed the blood trail back into the woods but came up empty.
The riding itself though was very good, this was one of the first times where I've been really stoked on the Pugsley. While I could have ridden on a cross or standard mtb, I don't think either of those bikes would have given me much confidence in the icy rutted conditions.
Obviously I was pleased to feel that I had chosen the right tool.

Reunions
So I just got back to Minneapolis this weekend, and am working on reestablishing some roots and sustainability. Los Angeles was a great experience, and I had hoped to drink in so much more of it, but work opportunities and elderly and sick parents called me back. Not to mention my EPIC BROS. I love these guys like no others, and it should go without saying that a JERK TAGTEAM will pretty much be running this town in no time. Jeff and I have tossed around some nice ideas, and have real, non-Mexican food fire in the ass to deliver whats for the best. Pretty stoked.
Peacock Groove NAHBS Prep 2
Today I popped back over to Peacock Groove because Erik had received some more stuff back from the painters since my visit on Friday.
While it's not quite done, Erik is still working on the "chainsaw" chain and I was sworn not reveal the drive side artwork until Friday, here are more shots of the Evil Dead 2 tribute bike.
this is Erik's new personal track bike, and will be entered into the "best paint" awards category at the show
I will bring you the drive side on Friday morning.
Get Well Pembo
Yesterday while we were hiking in the woods, Pembo incurred a huge laceration on his stomach. We had to rush him to the hospital where he had to have surgery.
Pembo was the first dog in the Bike Jerks wolfpack. From all of us to him and Josh, heal up buddy. We're pulling for you.
I also plan on trying to arrange some sort of benefit for Josh, as the surgery was an expensive and unplanned expense. If you've got space and wouldn't mind hosting a keg for the little fella, please let me know.

Peacock Groove: NAHBS Prep
I swung over to Peacock Groove Headquarters this afternoon to borrow Erik's copy of Conan the Barbarian, while there I took the opportunity to shoot some teasers of his NAHBS bikes before they are fully built up.
I also had the opportunity to shoot the prep of some of the other exhibitors who share his workspace. Expect a few more of these NAHBS Prep posts in the near future and more shots of Erik's projects as they near closer to completion.
Erik with his Evil Dead 2 Tribute bike
In the theme bike realm Erik has no peers among the builders you'll see at NAHBS. I hate to use a lazy analogy, but he is the OCC of the custom bike world. The thing about it though, that has always rubbed me the wrong way, is that his paint jobs always get the attention (be it positive or negative). And while it's true that his paint ideas are original, to say the least, the paint is really just the icing on top. What he really excels at is fabrication.
Just look at that shit.
My Sister Shannon
is on the cover of the new Comic Buyers Guide. So stoked.
If you're wondering why, it's because she's part of the magazine's staff. She sells adverts.
