Bike Thief NYC

terrifying in certain ways.

  1. I didn't enjoy watching that at all. I'd like to think that it would be different in Minneapolis...

The one time I tried to break a u-lock, it was my girlfriend's and she'd lost the key. I brought a 2-3 ft bolt cutter, hacksaw, and plenty of paranoia that I'd get in trouble for this somehow.

Couldn't get enough leverage w/ bolt cutter but I did put a healthy notch in the lock's shackle. A few quick minutes with the hacksaw finished it off.

This was in front of a big apartment building on Farwell, a pretty busy street in Milwaukee with lots of foot and car traffic. What surprised me more than how easy it was to break the u-lock was that NOBODY looked at me or anything. Lots of people walked by on the sidewalk, tons of cars rolled by(including at least 3 squad cars) but nobody said a word.
